Polaroid

Jedna z nich: Polaroid.

I thought lately that I have not tried many things in photography yet. One of them: Polaroid.

Postanowiłem to zmienić.

I decided to change that. For some time now I have been wanting to buy the camera and play with this type of photography. The game is a bit expensive, but this time – with some luck – I was able to find a working Polaroid 636 CoseUp camera for a reasonable price (80 PLN). Of course in Polaroid’s case the real expenses come with the film. You can find some original materials for ridiculously low price and expiry date dating back few years. Also for some time The Impossible Project has been working on production of the instant film for this kind of cameras. The price of one 8-photo pack is close to the price of my camera, but for now I have chosen this second option.

Powyżej możecie zobaczyć jeden z wyników.

You can see one of the results on the top.

Do drugiego podejścia użyłem więc potężnego narzędzia: mózgu.

There was a previous attempt on this shot, but due to some technical difficulties the colours were really bleach. And I don’t mean Polaroid kind of bleach. Since the photo should avoid direct sunlight right after popping out of the camera on one hand, and it should be developed in the temperature range from 13 to 28ºC on another… the conditions were not great to shoot outside. So for the second attempt I used a powerful tool: the brain.

The solution to the first problem is very simple (and even included in the manual): after loading the cartridge into the camera for the first time, there is a darkslide that pops out that you can use to shield the photo from the sunlight. Just be careful not to put it inside the frame.

Proste?

Solution for low temperature? Right after the photo popped out i put it into the empty box from the cartridge, huffed inside and put in under the jumper. SImple?

I have not yet designed a solution for too high temperatures, but having in mind the price of film – it can well happen I will develop it using the very one I have in the camera now… To be continued.
